College of Engineering at Cornell University Fall Diversity Hosting Weekend (Fall DHW) and the Women in Engineering Program (WIE Program)

21 Aug

We would like to draw your attention to two fall hosting programs sponsored by the College of Engineering at Cornell University Fall Diversity Hosting Weekend (Fall DHW) and the Women in Engineering Program (WIE Program). Both programs will take place September 29 October 1, 2011 and will provide students with an insiders view into life as a Cornell Engineer.

We know that the opportunity to visit campus is an important factor in identifying the schools that would best fit your students and everything they are looking for in their college experiences. Therefore, we cannot imagine a better way for students gifted in the realms of math, science, technology, and problem-solving to learn more about opportunities awaiting them in engineering than by spending a couple of days on the Cornell University campus. Both Fall DHW and the WIE Program are designed specifically for rising high school seniors who enjoy using math and science as tools to creatively tackle hands-on problems. Program applicants should be pursuing a rigorous, college-preparatory high school curriculum that includes the completion of calculus, chemistry, and physics prior to graduation.

Fall DHW is a co-ed program that focuses on students that identify with backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in engineering (African American/Black, Latino/a, and Native American), while the focus of the WIE Program is the experience of all women engineers at Cornell. Students selected for either program will have the opportunity to stay in a residence hall with a current student; learn details about the admission process; participate in interactive lab demonstrations; interact with faculty, staff, and students; and engage with members of several of our award-winning engineering student organizations. Participation in one of these programs is a great way for your students to learn more about what Cornell has to offer the aspiring engineer!

So who are the students selected to participate in these hosting programs? That is where we require your assistance in identifying prospective participants for Fall DHW and the WIE Program. Below are the program websites where students will find the online applications and other details about these programs.

Selection for Fall DHW and the WIE Program will take place over the summer and will be based upon each students academic background and success, extracurricular interests and involvement, and other characteristics helping to identify the program applicants as potential matches for Cornell Engineering. Since space is limited for both programs, it is important for students to submit their online applications and other application materials (high school transcript & high school profile) by Monday, August 29, 2011 so they receive full consideration.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Engineering Admissions office via email at engr_admissions@cornell.edu and include Fall Hosting in the subject heading or call us at (607) 255-5008.
